Hardwoods come in many different species which can affect the colour and hardness. Some species, such as oak and maple come in a prefinished stain selection.

There are also softwoods such as pine and fir. Hardwoods can be installed by nail down, glue down, or floating, depending on the sub-floor. Hardwoods need to be finished with baseboards and transitions.
